Ready to hit the road or hop on the plane with a toddler or small child? Don’t want to be tethered to an iPad or tablet? I’ve got you covered! My daughter and I travel a lot by plane and car so I have quickly become the master of toddler activity bags.
I have pulled together a step-by-step guide so that you can keep your sanity (or most of what is left) while traveling with your toddler.
Step-by-step guide to toddler activity bags
I have an awesome plan to entertain the toddler! This plan is easy, works for any type of travel, and doesn’t include a phone or tablet. Daily activity bags!
Go to a store and buy inexpensive activity books, toys, knick-knacks. A great example is Target’s Bulleye’s Spot! Go a few different times for the best selection. Once you bring it home, hide it all from the toddler. Another great item to add is the little board books. Items do not have to be new either. If your house is like ours, toys and books go in a rotation. Just snag a couple of little items that have not been played with for a while or hit up the local yard sales. Viola!
When it is a few days out from the trip grab some quart or gallon sized storage bags and sort the items into those bags. Label each bag Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, and so forth. Stash the activity bags in a carry-all, I recommend a beach-type bag or a Thirty-One bag. If you need an awesome Thirty-One rep, I know just the person!
Variety is key! Be sure to have an assortment of characters, actions, and colors. You can mix in items from the previous day as well. As an added bonus, if you stop along the way at any of the fast food restaurants you’ll be adding to the stash plus that bonus entertainment value if they have a play area for a break.
Each day, with great flourish, introduce the new bag! If you act excited, they’ll be excited. And as a toddler parent, you know this is true for just about everything.
