If you’re like most people, you probably don’t consider yourself a graphic designer. And that’s okay! Not everyone has to be able to create beautiful graphics from scratch. That’s where Canva Font Effects comes in. With this new release, Canva has made it easier than ever for anyone to add professional-level effects to their images. So whether you’re a business owner who needs to create visuals for your website or social media accounts, or you’re just someone who wants to make your photos look a little bit more special, Canva Font Effects is the tool for you!
Canva has made this easier with its release of Canva Font Effects. Frankly, it’s about time. Not having basic font features was one of the reasons that PicMonkey is a favorite graphic tool for many. So what features did they release? Keep reading and find out.
Shadow

You have complete control over the Offset, Direction, Blur, Transparency, and Color of the shadow when you use the shadow effect. This is easily the most anticipated font feature yet! Without having to perform weird procedures to get them, shadows are now available!
Lift
The Lift font effect isn’t as cool to me as the shadow or other effects that have been introduced. Intensity is the only modification you can make with the Lift style. This number range from 0 (no influence) to 100 (maximum influence). What’s your opinion on this one? Do you think you’ll use this as a favorite among Canva font effects?
Hollow
Hollow is a kind of font distortion that removes the middle of your type. You select the Thickness of the hollow, which ranges from 0 to 100. The greater (denser) you make the number chosen, the more filled in your font will be. I feel this effect looks best on big fonts, but it can also be used with scripts.
Splice
This font effect combines the Shadow effect with the Hollow effect. It’s kind of neat in an application and can really spruce up your fonts on graphics.
Due to the combination of effects you get to customize the Thickness, Offset, Direction, and color of the shadow. I think this looks neat with bold fonts and makes a pretty cool effect when used with bright colors and grey or black shadows.
Echo

Echo effects are comparable to shadows and will almost certainly be utilized in the same way. These two effects are really similar. The Offset, Direction, and Color of the Echo may be modified in much the same way as with Shadows.
Glitch
The glitch effect is another one that is very similar to another effect. This one is just like the Lift effect but not so “sprayed” out. Therefore ends up being more like the shadow effect.
When using this effect you get to pick Offset, Direction, and you are given two color options to use. This is limited based on your graphic and can be a limitation of the feature, but gives you a good color distinction.
Neon

The Neon font effect is my favorite and I have quickly started using it in my blog post graphics. It’s a fun effect that combines some elements of the other effects together to give this cool look. It draws your eye to the bold, bright colors, and helps pop out those elements quickly and easily.
When you use the Neon effect in Canva you get to pick out the intensity. Ranging on a numeral scale from 1 to 100 you determine how colored you want the neon to be. The Pinterest image to the right shows the range of differences you can get using intensity.
Background
One of the newer Canva font effects is one that is easily overlooked. It’s not an effect that you would use all the time, but it can come in handy for certain projects or when you want to make a statement.
The background Canva font effect puts a color behind your text. You are able to select any color from the Canva color palette to use as your background. This can be used to help your text stand out on top of busy photos or graphics.
Curved Shape
The Curved Shape Canva font effect is one that can be used to add a little bit of fun and personality to your text. This effect will take your text and curve it around in a circle. You can also determine what direction the curve is in. This ranges from -100 (bottom tightly lettered part of a circle) to 100 (tight top part of a circle).
